About the Fastest Sport On Two Feet:
The first sport of the United States, and the fastest growing sport as well, lacrosse is a "club" sport at Harry A. Burke High School. Freshman through seniors can participate, and everyone who is part of the team will get playing time. Lacrosse doesn't discriminate against size, or height. Anyone who picks up a stick falls in love with the sport. Our season is in the spring and can be played while participating in a sanctioned sport like track or baseball. We flex with the sanctioned sport schedules to get the most out of every player and help improve them as an individual. Along with our spring season, we also run practices and conditioning through the fall and winter for various tournaments that we participate in.
Halloween Lax Bash
After a one year hiatus the annual Burke Halloween LAX Bash is returning. More detail will be released soon but, for now, set aside Saturday October 28th afternoon for a lot of fun! Costume Contest, Pumpkin Smash, Pick Up Games and more!
Fall Ball is underway here at Burke. The Bulldogs have completed two scrimmages thus far. Burke endured a tough loss to Creighton Prep (Prep 12 - Burke 4) and bounced back the next week with a win against Cobra Lacrosse (Burke 10 - Cobra 8) Each scrimmage further allowed the Bulldogs to prepare for a trip to Lincoln for the Mid Fall Classic - an outdoor tournament on Oct 21 & 22. Practices continue until then to close out the fall season and continue into winter lacrosse. Burke holds its fall program at the highest standards and is very valuable for integrating the new players into the program and building on our team chemistry.
Burke Lax Gear
Burke Lacrosse will have an apparel store opened before the season. We are looking at late January. Stay tuned to order gear! Players needing Burke helmets can order them through the NELAX store. This will be opened up in January. As for lacrosse equipment here in Omaha - Dicks Sporting Goods, Scheel’s, and Play It Again Sports are the only places that carry lacrosse equipment in the metro. We are working to setup a online store with Black and Gold Burke gear again sometime in January. There are always many sites online to take advantage of. If you have questions talk to the coaches.
Contact Coach Schneider for details.
Athletes: Take care of your bodies
As we enter the season make sure you are taking care of your body! You only get one of those! We went through winter training and began spring ball very quickly yet we must not forget to take care of the vessel that carries the lacrosse talent. Make sure to keep up on fluids and fuel your body with good things. No fast food, soda, or candy! The machine will produce the most power with the proper fuel.
With that being said, anyone who is INJURED:
Here is your checklist:
Ice and heat. Make sure to apply ice after and heat before use of ligament, muscle, or bone during the season.
Pressure, elevate, wrap - If you have a sprain or roll; make sure to apply PRESSURE with a wrap, while icing and heating, and elevate the injured portion of your body! Keep swelling down!
Epsom salt baths are extremely helpful.
IBUPROFEN! Always medicate when injured, but do NOT overdose.
See a medical professional.
Trainer, PT, Doctor. The body is a very complex machine. When something is not working correctly the body adapts and compensates, this can lead to additional injuries and delay your recovery.
